Shares of Nextpower (NXT) surged to record highs on Friday after the clean energy company announced a deal to acquire battery energy storage firm Prevalon Energy for up to $365 million, a move that deepens its push into AI-driven energy infrastructure markets.<\/p>\n

Nextpower stock rose as much as 14% during trading to around $156.50, significantly outperforming the broader market. <\/p>\n

The rally followed investor optimism surrounding the company\u2019s largest acquisition since spinning off from Flex in 2024.<\/p>\n

The acquisition comes as clean energy companies regain momentum after spending much of the past year overshadowed by investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and defense stocks. <\/p>\n

Rising electricity demand, higher fuel prices, and expanding AI-related infrastructure needs have recently shifted attention back toward renewable energy and storage technologies.<\/p>\n

Nextpower expands into battery storage market<\/h2>\n

The Prevalon acquisition marks Nextpower\u2019s entry into the rapidly growing battery energy storage systems (BESS) sector, which analysts increasingly view as critical to the long-term growth of renewable energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Battery energy storage systems store electricity and release it when demand rises, helping stabilize renewable power generation and support grid reliability.<\/p>\n

Prevalon has deployed more than 6 gigawatt-hours of utility-scale storage systems globally and works with several unnamed cloud computing providers. <\/p>\n

The company said it has secured \u201c1.3 gigawatts of firm supply contracts supporting AI and hyperscaler infrastructure deployments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nextpower plans to integrate Prevalon\u2019s storage technology and energy management applications into its existing solar technology platform. <\/p>\n

The acquisition will also create a new growth avenue tied to expanding data center and AI infrastructure demand.<\/p>\n

The deal will be funded through a mix of approximately $1.6 billion in cash and additional borrowing. <\/p>\n

The transaction is expected to close during the second quarter, pending regulatory approval.<\/p>\n

Jefferies analysts described the acquisition as the company\u2019s \u201csingle largest transaction since spinning off from its parent, Flex, in 2024 \u2018by a substantial margin.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

AI and energy demand reshape clean tech outlook<\/h2>\n

The acquisition also reflects broader changes across global energy markets.<\/p>\n

Demand tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure has significantly increased electricity consumption expectations, particularly from hyperscale data centers requiring stable backup power systems.<\/p>\n

At the same time, rising geopolitical tensions and fuel prices have strengthened investor interest in renewable energy technologies.<\/p>\n

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran conflict has disrupted global oil flows and increased fuel costs worldwide, creating additional support for clean energy alternatives.<\/p>\n

RBC Capital Markets noted that commentary from renewable energy firms since the conflict began \u201chas been broadly constructive.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bank added that investor interest in clean energy and transition materials has accelerated after a prolonged slowdown in environmental, social, and governance-related investments during 2025.<\/p>\n

Wood Mackenzie separately described the Iran conflict as a potential \u201cgame changer\u201d for electric vehicle adoption, projecting that 80 million EVs could enter the global market by 2030 as a direct result of the disruption.<\/p>\n

Analysts raise price targets after acquisition<\/h2>\n

Wall Street analysts responded positively to the acquisition announcement.<\/p>\n

Northland raised its target price on Nextpower shares to $162, while Jefferies lifted its target to $159 and RBC increased its target to $149. <\/p>\n

All maintained Buy or Outperform ratings on the stock.<\/p>\n

UBS also raised its price target to $170 from $140 while reiterating a Buy rating.<\/p>\n

The bank said Nextpower is evolving beyond a specialized solar tracker company into a diversified electrical hardware supplier capable of capitalizing on growing demand across renewable energy and AI infrastructure markets.<\/p>\n

UBS noted that the company\u2019s market leadership and customer relationships position it well to expand into storage and power conversion products despite near-term integration and logistics costs tied to the Prevalon acquisition.<\/p>\n

The firm added that Nextpower remains one of its preferred equity picks within the clean energy sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn some cases, the improvement in demand predates the conflict, but recent geopolitical developments have reinforced the trend,\u201d RBC analysts wrote.<\/p>\n
