Marvell Technology (MRVL) ripped higher this morning as Nvidia\u2019s chief executive Jensen Huang signalled the company could be \u201cthe next trillion-dollar opportunity<\/a>\u201d at the Computex conference in Taipei.<\/p>\n

According to Cantor Fitzgerald\u2019s senior managing director, CJ Muse, however, Huang\u2019s comment was more cheerleading than forecast \u2013 and investors hunting for real AI upside should be looking elsewhere.<\/p>\n

That said, Marvell stock has been a blockbuster investment in 2026, currently up an exciting 300% versus its year-to-date low in early February.  <\/p>\n

Why CJ Muse is more cautious on Marvell stock<\/h2>\n

Muse does not dispute MRVL\u2019s standing in the overall artificial intelligence ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Speaking with CNBC<\/em><\/a>, he acknowledged the firm\u2019s critical role in custom silicon and interconnect technology, the plumbing that governs how AI workloads scale both within data centers and across distributed systems.<\/p>\n

In Q1, Marvell\u2019s data center business drove about 76% of its total revenue, underscoring \u201cgenuine\u201d operational momentum.<\/p>\n

But momentum and a trillion-dollar market cap are two different things \u2013 and the math narrates a sobering story, Muse argued during the interview.<\/p>\n

MRVL market cap stood at just under $192 billion heading into Tuesday, meaning a trillion-dollar valuation would demand a \u201cfive-fold\u201d increase, a massive leap that Muse was blunt in calling out.<\/p>\n

He called Huang \u201ca great cheerleader\u201d whose strategic bets have been spectacular \u2013 but described  the trillion-dollar framing as \u201ca little more aspirational and figurative, not literal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muse sees Nvidia stock as a better pick than MRVL<\/h2>\n

Interestingly, while the market scrambles to find the next Nvidia, Muse contends the original is still being overlooked.<\/p>\n

He dubbed NVDA \u201cthe obvious name left for dead in AI\u201d \u2013 a counterintuitive tag for a company with a market cap of about $5.4 trillion.<\/p>\n

The crux of his case is valuation compression: as earnings exploded, the stock has not kept pace, leaving the multiple lower than historical norms.<\/p>\n

Muse\u2019s projection of up to $16 in earnings next year would place NVDA shares at just 14x forward earnings at the current price \u2013 a figure he said is below everything else in semiconductor coverage, barring memory names like Micron.<\/p>\n

In short, for a business still at the absolute center of the AI infrastructure buildout, that\u2019s a valuation anomaly worth taking seriously.<\/p>\n

Technicals also warrant selling MRVL shares<\/h2>\n

Investors should note that technicals seem to agree with Muse\u2019s cautious view on Marvell stock as well.<\/p>\n

While the company sits decisively above its key moving averages (MAs), its relative strength index \u2013 following today\u2019s rally \u2013 has climbed into the mid-80s, signaling an extremely overbought condition that often triggers a near-term pullback.<\/p>\n

Wall Street more broadly also believes MRVL\u2019s year-to-date surge is a bit \u201coverdone\u201d. <\/p>\n

While the consensus rating remains at \u201cstrong buy\u201d, the mean price objective of about $225 signals potential for more than 20% downside from here.<\/p>\n
